Mark Twain (Samuel Lengkhorn Clemens) was an American writer. In 1857 he became a pilot's pupil, achieving his dream. Having written some humoresques for a newspaper in Virginia City, in August, 1862 he became its employee. As his pseudonym, he took expression "the Measure 2" that meant sufficient depth for safe swimming.
