Aurora la Doctora is about an immigrant student bullied in school because of her poor English skills. Her dear sister Sofi gets seriously ill, forcing Aurora to help her parents navigate Sofi's care, often serving as an interpreter. This experience shows Aurora how her improving language and cultural skills can help others in her community who do not have access to Spanish-speaking doctors. Despite the heartbreaking words of her school counselor, who tells her that she is not 'college material, ' Aurora discovers that her heritage is her superpower. In real life, Aurora is training to become a primary care doctor and planning to practice medicine in areas with high Hispanic/Latinx populations.
